Inasmuch Leads to Ongoing Ministry

On April 12th, Covenant Baptist Church in Lancaster, SC, celebrated a remarkable milestone… their 20th Inasmuch Day! This year, their compassion was directed toward a particularly meaningful group: local foster children and the dedicated staff of the Lancaster Department of Social Services (DSS).

The day was filled with joy as children enjoyed food, games, and inflatables, but the impact reached far beyond a single day of fun. That spirit of service led to an ongoing monthly ministry through a space in the DSS office known as The Lily Pad. Designed to feel more like home than an institution, The Lily Pad offers a comforting environment for children in crisis. It includes games, books (including Bibles), soft couches, and activities. According to The Lily Pad website, volunteers are critical in building and maintaining comfortable living spaces within the department of social service offices for children to feel loved and valued during an uncertain time.

Covenant Baptist Church now faithfully visits monthly to maintain the space, ensure everything is in working order, and check in with DSS staff to meet other needs as they arise. What began as a one-day event has blossomed into a continuous, compassionate partnership.

“After the event, we all agreed… sometimes it’s about helping the helpers, those who serve children and families in difficult circumstances,” shared Missions Coordinator Leigh Jordan.

God isn’t calling the church to be mobilized for only a day or two each year. He’s calling us to a lifestyle of compassion. Jesus modeled this in the New Testament, and His followers are called to do the same. Compassion ministry is not an optional add-on to the Christian life, it’s at the very core of what it means to follow Jesus.

Thank you, Covenant Baptist Church, for embodying the heart of Operation Inasmuch and making a lasting impact in your community.
